The cabin was in great shape. All the furniture was very comfortable. Great sound system. Cabin's water tank wasn't working correctly, but quick action to rectify the situation was a pleasant surprise.

1. Housekeeping: We were extremely disappointed in the housekeeping. Dishes, cutlery, silverware, glasses, pots and pans had been put away not completely clean. The kitchen counters were covered in a sticky substance that turned out to be cooking oil and grease. The rangetop was filthy. After the power failure was resolved, I spent the better part of 2 days cleaning and organizing the kitchen. I refused to wash all of the pots and pans, and so cleaned up a few that I used while there. 1a. The gas grill had not been cleaned, and the propane tank for the gas grill was nearly empty and ran out right after we placed steaks and chicken on the grill. Housekeeping had apparently not checked the level in the tank and, in fact, we were told that they 'shake' the tank to determine if it needs to be replaced. They should have and be taught to use a gauge, and if the tank is less than one-quarter full, the tank should be replaced. The tenant should be advised of how much propane is in the tank at the time they arrive at the cabin. 1b. The comforter and pillow shams in the 1st floor bedroom apparently hadn't been washed in quite some time. I was not going to take time from my vacation to haul them to a laundromat, but you may want to consider replacing them. 1c. The surface of the dining table was so sticky with buildup of something we think was inadequately cleaned food substances, we finally used a sheet from one of the sets for the sleeper sofas as a tablecloth. 1d. I can appreciate trying to minimize the electric bill; however, the lighting in the kitchen was so inadequate, we upgraded the bulbs in all of the fixtures. 1e. The aerator on the kitchen faucet was in terrible shape with barely any flow. I soaked it in white vinegar to no avail and so replaced the aerator on the faucet. I also soaked the hand sprayer on the kitchen sink in white vinegar to remove the mineral build-up, so it works much better now. 2. Consider updating the pictures on the website for Above the Clouds. 2a. The picture of the view is deceptive in that it was apparently taken while standing at a far corner of the deck looking out over the driveway and not from the main area of the deck. The view from the deck itself is completely obscured by trees. 2b. The furniture in the main room of the cabin has been updated and looks much better than the pics on the website. 2c. Deck furniture: The white wicker deck furniture, which looks so nice on the website, needs to be replaced. It is actually covered with mold and mildew, and the paint is chipping badly. Nails in the porch swing and small side table were protruding and I reset these to avoid torn clothing and possible scrapes and scratches. 2d. The 'wilted' blades on the ceiling fan outside over the grill should be replaced with plastic fan blades (easily done and are available at Lowes for a very modest price). It is one of the first things the new tenant sees. First impressions are lasting impressions. 3. The light fixture over the tub in the 1st floor master bath is extremely loose and did not have a bulb in it. The bulb in the lamp under the TV in the living room was used to replace the burned out bulb in the lamp on the sideboard in the dining area. 4. I do have to say that Hearthside's response to the extended power failure (30+ hours) was exceptional. Chuck's (the maintenance contractor) response about the issue with the LED string lights and remote control, and later, about the propane was excellent. 5. The hot tub was pristine. The people who service the hot tubs did an excellent job. 6. The power failure: Of course, there was nothing you could do about that, and we understand that completely. HOWEVER, you may want to note in your literature that when the power fails and the cabin is on a well, there will be no water in the cabin. You may want to consider instructions on how to use the water in the hot tub to manually flush toilets. You may also want to recommend (since apparently power failures are a common occurrence) that tenants come prepared with bottled water for drinking and antiseptic wipes for handwashing. We encountered several other tenants at Kroger and the Family Dollar store who were unaware water from the hot tub could be used to flush toilets, and we offered advice on food preservation and hygiene when running water was not available. I would strongly recommend that the owners of all of the cabins you handle be required to provide and maintain a small generator that is capable of at very least powering the well pump and keeping the refrigerator running. 7. Your check-in procedures and maintenance response were definitely top notch. However, until you make some major improvements on your housekeeping procedures and attention to detail, I would be reluctant to give an unreserved recommendation; I would have to include a caveat that the housekeeping wasn't the best or even on the level with most hotels. (My answer to question 3 is made with reservation.) 8. The stik-vac was in lousy condition. I cleaned the brushes, filter and reservoir. 9. The cabin itself is beautiful. It is well-built and very nicely decorated. Again, the owner may want to consider refreshing the comforters and shams. 10. The owner might want to consider updating the wifi. Even after rebooting the modem and router more than once, the speed was barely adequate to even obtain email, never mind trying to work over vpn or even post to social media.

When we arrived our cabin had no water. The staff made multiple trips to fix the problem. They did everything they could to help us. Since no other cabins were available to move to they gave our party of 4 complimentary tickets to a dinner show and they fixed our water the next morning. Very good! Thanks so much!

The staff was amazing... even googled the closet walmart for me, as I hate the one in Pigeon Forge. The cabin was more than we expected. Above the Clouds is HUGE!! We have been living in a camper since the historic LA flood in Aug. We were excited about having our bathroom under one roof. We have to go to 2 different places to bathe etc. The sun actually rises in front of the cabin, although the view is a little blocked due to trees. We didn't discover the bathroom under the stairway until the morning of checkout. We will absolutely be back. Thank you Hearthside for allowing us to live stress free and like royalty for a week. Oh and btw.... the decorator for Above the Clouds did an amazing job. Every area of the cabin has a beautiful focal point... nice touches.

Our experience with Hearthside and our stay in the Above the Clouds cabin was nothing short of spectacular. We first booked a different cabin but upon arrival realized our large older dog couldn't quite make it up it's stairs so we called Hearthside back and they immediately let us switch to a cabin that would work. This alone was wonderful, and when we arrived to Above the Clouds it exceeded any expectations. The view was amazing, there was plenty of room and amenities for a very comfortable stay. Even the hot tub was sparkling clean and ready to go! We did not even want to leave the cabin to go do fun activities, could have just stayed there the whole time! We had a lot of fun playing pool and spending time on the deck taking in the majestic mountain views. The quality of customer service and lodging was above and beyond anything we could have hoped for--thank you for providing an extraordinary Smoky Mountain experience!

I enjoyed staying at the cabin (above the clouds) The cabin was clean, and the staff was very nice and polite. We had an issue with getting the heat turned on, i called the office. They send me a maintenance man up to our cabin, and he got it turned on for us, very quickly.

We loved the cabin but wondered why there were no clothes hangers. Also, aside from the expected insects as mentioned in your letter of welcome, there were many dead beetle-line bugs at the base of the walls in the great room. We wondered if the cleaning people may have not vacuumed thoroughly. We took out the trash, piled dirty linens, washed some of the towels and left no dirty dishes. We hope we were satisfactory renters.
